Jollie Brook Hut circuit tramp 7th & 8th  July 2019

The weather was fabulous with blue skies, the rivers were low, there were bunks available in the hut and the company was great. Ideal conditions!

On the first day we tramped about 4 hours from the Sisters Swingbridge car park to Jollie Brook Hut via Gabriel Hut and a side trip to Lake Sumner. The second day took five hours and involved lots (and lots) of river crossings. There was no chance of keeping our boots dry! It would be a fabulous tramp on a hot summer’s day.

One lesson from the tramp was to note your intentions in the hut log books. When we arrived at the hut there were two sleeping bags and associated gear on the bunks. Two hunters arrived at the hut at 9pm, one of them having been injured. They then took the wrong route when coming down from the tops in the dark and ended up in a creek bed. If the injury had been more serious no one would have known where they were or what they were doing as they had not left a note in the log book.

Participants: Russ Kiddey, Brent Stanley, Gerald Edmunds
