Club Success in FMC Photo Competition!!!!!!!!
Hi there, Federated Mountain Clubs ran a photo competition this year and you may recall that we invited OFTC members to enter, via the Club.
Several of our members submitted photos to me and a number were submitted to the FMC. (We were only allowed 2 per each of the 6 categories so an independent panel selected those to go forward.)
The results are in the latest FMC magazine that you have received in the mail, or are about to receive. I'm delighted to advise that two of the photos forwarded by our club were successful!
Charlie Ledbrook's excellent photo of a group of OFTC members (Paul Knox, Dennis Logan, Ray Twist and Rod Lewis) perched on a small pinnacle near the Shotover Saddle with Mt Aspiring in the background was Runner Up in the "Above The Bushline" category. Well done Charlie-a great photo, and the judges obviously thought so.
I was rather chuffed to be judged the winner in the Landscape category with a neat photo I took of Hinapouri Tarn (adjacent to Lake Angelus in the Nelson Lakes), taken as we set off from the Angelus Hut early one morning on a great tramp led by Angus Macdonald, last year.
Several other photos submitted by our club were also very, very good, so the standard of competition must have been high indeed for them to have missed out.
A point I would make is that both of our photos were taken with ordinary cameras, as were all of our other entries! Nothing flash so it's possible to take very good photos, with a little thought, without having to buy the latest and greatest-and most expensive camera.
I have suggested to Warwick Scadden that we run a more formal competion within our club to select entries for next year's FMC competition. I will advise more details about that later.
Meantime, keep on taking those photos!
Cheers
Paul Knox
